FAQ

JUICES

Q: What kind of juicer do you use?

Our juice is extracted using a hydraulic press. This cold-press extraction is the optimal method of juicing. By exerting thousands of pounds of pressure on the produce very slowly and without heating up, a hydraulic press maintains the integrity of the plant’s cellular structure. This yields the purest and most complete form of extracted juice with the highest possible density of enzymes, nutrients, and flavor—meaning you get all of the goodness the whole plant has to offer.

Q: What makes your juices different from what I can buy at my local grocery store?

Most juice on grocery store shelves is pasteurized to reduce pathogens, either through flash-pasteurization, a process that heats the juice to high temperatures, or a more recently introduced method, high-pressure processing (HPP), which uses high pressure to achieve the same end. The drawback is that both methods basically sterilize the juice, destroying live enzymes and nutrients, and minimizing flavor.

Q: What is the shelf life of your juice?

The juices are fresh for 3 days after purchase or from the day you receive your delivery. However, we recommend that you consume it as soon as it arrives in order to take full advantage of all of the live enzymes and nutrients the fresh cold-pressed juice has to offer.

Q: How fresh is your juice?

We press and bottle daily to ensure that you are drinking the freshest, healthiest, and highest quality juice.

Q: Where should I store my juice?

Always store your juice in the refrigerator. If you receive a delivery, take the juices out of the cooler box and place them directly into the refrigerator. Please return the ice pack when you return your refundable bottles.

Q: How many calories are in your juices and juice cleanses?

Our juices and cleanses consist of raw, enzyme-rich, easily assimilated nutrients designed to maintain optimal health. Our aim is to help people become more aware of their day-to-day food choices and less concerned with counting calories. But we understand that some customers are concerned about caloric intake. Most of our juices range from 80 to 175 calories (per pint) and cleanses range from 1000 to 1200 calories per day.

Q: What if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

Our juices offer a great way of supplementing your current diet with a variety of healthy nutrients, which is especially beneficial during this time. However, your body needs more calories when pregnant or breastfeeding to help your child grow and develop, and during cleansing, your body releases toxins that should not be absorbed by your child. Ultimately, it is best to consult with your healthcare professional about incorporating our juices into your diet while pregnant or breastfeeding.

Q: What if I have a medical condition or take prescription medication?

Please consult with your healthcare professional if you have a medical condition or take prescription medicine before drinking our products. That said, our juices help nourish your body to maintain optimal health, ward off disease, and are an excellent addition to alternative paths of healing if you have any serious health challenges.

Q: What if I have a gluten allergy?

All of our products are 100% gluten-free.

Q: Is the juice vegan and/or Kosher?

Our products are 100% vegan. No animal products are used in any of our products. However they are not certified Kosher.

Q: Where do I get my protein while cleansing?

All of our green juices plus our Almond Drink supply your body with instantly absorbable proteins. Food that captures the most sunlight contains the most readily available protein. Amino acids are the building blocks of protein and green vegetables (chock full of chlorophyll) are an excellent source of these muscle-building nutrients.

Q: Can I give the juice to my child?

Yes! Our juice can be a very tasty and healthy addition to your child’s diet. However, children should not do juice cleanses or fasts while they are still growing.

Q: How much juice should I drink?

This always depends on your personal preference and health goals. In order to experience the full benefits of our products, we recommend incorporating juice into your daily diet and doing a juice cleanse at least twice a year.

CLEANSING

Q: Does the cleanse come with instructions?

Yes. Our cleanses come with detailed instructions, which will be emailed to you when you order online. If ordering by phone or in person, please make sure to give us your email address so we can send you the cleanse instructions. If you can’t find the answer to your question try our Instructions page, email us at info@juiceshopsf.com, or call us at 415.282.5700.

Q: How many bottles come in each cleanse?

Our cleanses include six 16 oz juices, one 2 oz elixir, and one 4 oz elixir per day. See each cleanse’s individual product page to find out which juices are included.

Q: I signed up for a 3-day cleanse. Do you deliver the cleanse each morning or all at once?

Our juice cleanses are delivered or scheduled for pickup every other day to maintain freshness. For example, 3-day cleanses are split up into two deliveries/pickups, 5-day cleanses are split into three deliveries/pick ups. This maximizes the cleanse experience by providing your body with fresh-off-the-press juices full of live enzymes and nutrients.

Q: Which cleanse level (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, Pro) is best for me?

For more information on the different cleanse levels go to our Cleanses page. If you have never done a cleanse before, we recommend starting with a 3-day Beginner cleanse. If you still need assistance or advice please email us at info@juiceshopsf.com or call us at 415.282.5700.

Q: I have never cleansed before. How do I know if I can handle a cleanse?

The majority of people who have cleansed with us are pleasantly surprised by how filling the juices are and how much energy they have while cleansing. The juices provide your body with an ample supply of nutrients to get you through your day. Just make sure to take it a little slower than usual and listen to your body. Or start with a 1-day cleanse to test the waters!

Q: How many days should I cleanse?

The answer to this question varies for every person. The longer the cleanse, the more cleansing it will be! A 5-day cleanse will go deeper than a 1-day cleanse. It just depends on your personal schedule and preference. A 1-day cleanse is a great way of setting the tone for a healthy diet (some people do it as a ritual one day a week to reset their bodies). A 3-day cleanse is great starting point if you want to try the true cleansing process. A 5-day or longer cleanse goes deeper, maximizing the elimination of built-up toxins while starting to rebuild and strengthen your immune system.

Q: Can I have any other beverages besides the juice while cleansing?

Yes, but please be selective! We recommend having at least eight glasses of still filtered water per day in addition to your juices. Herbal tea (caffeine-free) and vegetable broths are good options as well.

Q: What are detox symptoms? Does everyone get them?

The release of built-up toxins occurs on a cellular level when one does a juice fast. But how one experiences detoxing varies from person to person, and not everyone experiences detox symptoms. Detox symptoms may include headaches, nausea, dizziness, fatigues, constipation, and skin eruptions. Please follow our instructions before, during, and after your cleanse to minimize detox symptoms and maximize the benefits of your cleanse. To help keep detox symptoms to a minimum, we’ve designed four different cleanse levels, accommodating beginners and pros alike!

Q: Can I do a cleanse even though I have a busy schedule?

Yes, you can continue with your regular schedule, just make sure you have the chance to rest when your body needs it.

Q: Can I exercise while cleansing?

We recommend taking it easy. That said, you can exercise, and you might be surprised by how much energy you have while cleansing! The energy you usually use to digest your food is now available to be used for other things, like working out. Just make sure you stay hydrated with water and try to get some fresh air! Even though you may feel amazing, be mindful not to overexert yourself.

Q: How much weight am I going to lose?

Our cleanses are designed to give your digestive system a break, removing toxins and replenishing it with nutrients. Losing weight is not the goal. That said, many people will see some weight loss, so if you are trying to lose weight, a cleanse can be a great way to kickstart healthier habits and reach normalized body weight.

Q: I haven’t gone to the bathroom at all. Is that normal?

Absolutely. The opposite could be a possibility as well. These are normal side effects of a cleanse and one of the reasons why we recommend colonics or enemas while cleansing.

Q: Can I do a cleanse and eat food too?

Our cleanses are designed to be juice fasts, i.e. consumed without solid food. The benefits of a cleanse will be greatly diminished if mixed with solid food. However, we encourage adding our juices to your regular daily diet, as they have many benefits to your health and wellbeing.

Q: What do I eat before and after my cleanse? Do I have to prepare for my cleanse?

Visit our Instructions page to get more information on how to prepare for a cleanse. It provides a list of foods for healthy eating pre- and post-cleansing.

Q: How often should I do a cleanse?

This is a personal decision that only you can make. Many people will do a cleanse when they experience detox symptoms like fatigue, lack of energy, digestive problems, sleep problems, weak immune system, anxiety, or depression. Often these symptoms are associated with holidays or changes in season. Others will commit to one cleanse per month, or one every three to six months, while others do a ritual 1-day cleanse once a week. In addition to cleansing, we also recommend incorporating our juices into your daily routine, as this will benefit your health and wellbeing throughout the year by strengthening your body and immune system.

OTHER

Q: Where is your central kitchen located?

Our central kitchen is located in San Francisco at the base of Bernal Heights in the Bayview at 540 Barneveld Ave, Unit C. This is also our pickup location.

Q: Where can I try the juice?

Please visit us at one of our Juice Shop locations to pick up some juices (no pre-order necessary)!

Q: Why do you use glass bottles instead of plastic?

Our glass bottles are just another way of ensuring the quality of our products. We are selling juices and cleanses that nourish and detoxify your body. Plastic bottles are known for their negative effects on the health of our bodies (like leaching chemicals into beverages) and on the planet (plastic is a leading cause of pollution). In order to minimize the pollution of our environment, we try to produce as little waste as possible, and our reusable glass bottles are one more way of achieving that goal.

Q: What do I do with the bottles? How do I return them?

We charge a refundable bottle deposit for all of our bottles ($2 per bottle). You can return your bottles at our pickup location or any of our Juice Shop locations. You can also return them to us at your next scheduled delivery.

Q: When and how will the bottle credit be returned to me?

We will credit your card within one week of your return. You can expect the credit to show up on your next statement. Please contact us at info@juiceshopsf.com if you have any questions regarding your bottle credit.

Q: How late can I return the bottles?

We can refund you up to 60 days after your payment. We always appreciate returns even after that period, but we cannot offer a refund after 60 days.
